5 acts to check out at Lovebox this weekend
This weekend (12-13 July), Lovebox is returning to West London’s Gunnersbury park and the line-up is looking seriously saucy for this year’s instalment. So I thought it’s only right to run through 5 artists and their choice tracks that we, the fans, need to hear on full blast at the festival.
On Friday J Hus AKA The Dark Vader will be blessing the Lovebox crowd with his unique blend of UK rap and Afroswing. The artist has had a crazy journey over the last few years, from releasing the seminal projects The 15th Day, Common Sense and Big Spang EP, to going through trials and tribulations in terms of his freedom. But one thing has remained a constant and that’s his ability to come up with absolute smashes. Check out his summer sizzler ‘Dark Vader’ below to warm yourself up for J Hus’ set at the I-D Presents stage this weekend.
Giggs commenced the year by releasing his fifth studio album Big Bad…, which followed the landmark album Landlord, and utilising this awesome catalogue of music, Hollowman will be shutting down the I-D Presents stage at Lovebox on Saturday with his arsenal of bangers, including the UK rap national anthem ‘Talkin Da Hardest’, the skank inducing ‘Whippin Excursion’ and the epic track ‘187’, which you can watch below.
Slowthai’s rise over the last year has been meteoric. It was only two months ago that the Northampton rapper dropped his debut album Nothing Great About Britain, which included fan favourites such as ‘Drug Dealer’, ‘North Nights’ and ‘T N Biscuits’. His latest drop (which is also taken from the album) is the Skepta-assisted ‘Inglorious’, which when played during his Friday Lovebox set at the I-D Presents stage, will most definitely cause a riotous moshpit.
Children of Zeus
In terms of rap meets R&B, there is not a more soulful duo than Children of Zeus in the UK. The Manchester artists Tyler Daley and Konny Kon have been on their grind for years, but it was their debut album, Travel Light, that helped to shine a light on the group’s sheer talent. Check out one of the project’s highlights, ‘Fear of a Flat Planet’ featuring Layfullstop, below and catch the Manchester mavericks doing their thing at the Lovebox Noisey Presents stage on Saturday.
Ever since Tion Wayne dropped his triumphant return track ‘Home’ last summer, the Edmonton rapper has been on an unprecedented run. From featuring on two chart-ready Afroswing thumpers in the shape of NSG’s ‘Options’ and Swarmz’s ‘Bally’, to absolutely murking the drill anthem ‘Kiesha and Becky’ alongside Russ, Tion Wayne has a multitude of songs that are festival ready. Check out his latest summer bubbler, ‘Drive By’, below and catch N9’s finest rocking the Lovebox Noisey Presents stage on Saturday.
