Mriamnext specialises in promoting shows for rap artists, especially in the trap genre and has a performance presenting Blac Youngsta coming up at the O2 Forum Kentish Town.

The young entrepreneur has been doing a lot in terms of making the U.K./U.S. connection with hip-hop music. So following his win at the Youth Music Awards for his entrepreneurial achievements with his I Am Next platform, RWD had a chat with Mriamnext about how it felt to win the award, the origins of his name and what his recent trip to New York’s Rolling Loud festival was like.

I saw you were in America recently – how was that?

I just went New York and attended Rolling Loud festival for work. I met Fat Joe, Meek Mill and a couple other guys.

What’s the origin of the Mriamnext name?

Ummm, lol, that is funny. So basically my Instagram name used to be my government name, but I didn’t like it. Not my actual name, but my government name being on Instagram. Then I changed my Insta name to something stupid like Mr 2015, and from there I was like nah Mr 2015 is dumb, so I just changed it to Mriamnext. I thought that I need something that people are going to remember and where they’ll know what I’m about. It is what it is in the name – it does what it says on the tin.

Winning the entrepreneurship award at the Youth Music ceremony – how did it feel?

That was lit man. I didn’t know I was going to win and I just literally came back from New York. And I even had a show to go to that same night, so I was even thinking to miss the award ceremony because I didn’t think I’d be able to make both, as I had the House of Pharaohs headline show to do as well. But winning it is a big thing because we don’t usually win these type of things and in the end I was able to make the House of Pharaohs show in perfect time.

Quick Fire Five

Helping hand or DIY?

DIY. You learn a lot more when you do it DIY, not all the time, a helping hand is great, but D.I.Y or D.I.E, it’s real life man.

The grind or Success?

I’d go for the grind. it’s fun man, because when you’re successful you’ve still got to be on the grind and personally I haven’t even got to the success bit yet, so I don’t even know what it feels like. For now I’d say the grind, because that’s really all I know.

Trapstar or Louis Vuitton?

I don’t wear Louis Vuitton or own a piece of the brand, so Trapstar.

Netflix and chill with the bae or turn up at Ace Hotel with the mandem?

The bae one (says laughing). The bae one!

Travis Scott or Sam Wise?

That is funny. aaaahhhhhh! Right now, Travis Scott’s my guy. Sam Wise is forever my guy as well, but I like Travis Scott, he’s wavey, that’s one of my favourite artists. So right now, Travis. But Sam is the guy, that’s no cap. Sam Wise will definitely get there.
