Taking inspiration from a classic photo of the greatest of all time in a dunk contest, in which MJ is in the open lane, rising to the hoop, ball cocked behind his right ear and his legs tucked under his body, which took designer Tinker back to the time when their partnership first flourished, in 1988. Drawing key inspiration from that inspirational moment, Hatfield produced a design that hoped to embody Jordan in a totally unconventional way.

Turning the XXX of Jordan 30 into a basketball net on the shoe’s heel, the trainer’s detailing is second to none, with stars across the shoe symbolizing Mike’s ‘otherworldly talents and planets orbiting the Jordan universe’. Working closely with fellow designer Mark Smith, the pair aimed to tell a story of the past, while focusing squarely on the future.
