Sampa The Great is appropriately named, as her music exudes greatness from it’s pores and her latest release, ‘Heaven’, featuring Whosane is a prime example of her sheer talent.

The Zambia born, Botswana raised, Australian based singer/rapper embodies Lauryn Hill’s spirit on this one, coming in with scissor sharp lyrics concerning a near death experience, rapping over a nostalgic hip-hop production and Whosane glazes the icing on the cake, showcasing her angelic voice for the hook.

Speaking on the track, Sampa The Great says, “‘Heaven’ is where I detail my encounter with a ‘near death experience’ or so I thought,” explains Sampa. “With this experience and in most cases for people who experience such, it causes you to change your thinking patterns and evaluate the importance of certain things in your life. ‘Heaven’ is the detailing of that stage and the emotions behind it. Sung by the ever talented and beautiful Whosane, along with the most beautiful vocals by my own lil sister, Mwanje”.

Press play on the supremely soulful song below, taken from Sampa’s forthcoming debut album The Returnout September 13 via Ninja Tune.
