BBC 1Xtra are curating a ‘Grime Symphony’ at the Royal Albert Hall in August as part of the BBC Proms season, with Stormzy, Lethal Bizzle and Skepta among those performing. Before that then, though, 1Xtra’s Sian Anderson – who will host the Symphony next month – presented a special session at the famous Maida Vale studios, where previous guests in her show’s ‘Next Generation’ segment return to MC with the Hip Hop Orchestra collective.

Broadcast on Wednesday night, video footage of each performance has been uploaded online and you can watch them all here. These include:

  • Mez and AJ Tracey over Kano ‘Mic Check’
  • Jammz and Mic Ty over Wiley ‘Eskimo’
  • Jevon and Janset over ‘P’s & Q’s’

They were then followed by performances from two special guests in Jammer and Merky ACE. The latter spat over a version of S-X’s ‘Wooo Riddim’, while Jammer took on Ruff Sqwad’s ‘Functions On The Low’ – even mixing down his performance on the spot – and used it as an opportunity to announce a new Ruff Sqwad’s Not Dead project he has in the works. Watch them along with the others below.

Sian Anderson‘s show is on 1Xtra Wednesdays 10pm-1am.
